Old Algiers RiverFest™

April 17 & 18, 2010

Old Algiers RiverFest™ is presented annually by Old Algiers Main Street Corporation, whose mission is to preserve and revitalize the historically commercial corridors of Old Algiers.

Official Poster
Award-winning artist Terrance Osborne produced the official poster for RiverFest™ 2009. He created the poster in 2008 as well. Osborne, who was a public school teacher before becoming a full-time artist, will use his signature vibrant colors and a historical context to produce a poster that represents the rich culture of Old Algiers. Classroom Program
The classroom program is available to any school, click here to download. It includes lesson plans for lower elementary, middle school and high school students. As a culmination of the lessons, local musicians will visit the schools to perform and explain the influence of early jazz sounds and rhythms on their music. All students will be invited to participate in the poster contest, now in its fourth year. A contest winner is selected from grades K-8 and from grades 9-12. Each is awarded a $250 savings bond, and the schools the winners attend receive $250 for art and/or music supplies.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Presenting a festival, even a small one, requires a lot of resources. Sponsors are key to any event such as this. OAMSC is seeking sponsors who see the value of promoting the rich jazz tradition that came from Old Algiers in the first half of the 20th century and who can benefit from the audiences that it reaches.
