About Old Algiers Main Street Corporation

Who we are
Founded June 25, 1996, and incorporated January 22, 1997, the Old Algiers Main Street Corporation is part of a much larger effort in which the National Trust for Historic Preservation's National Main Street Center has effectively redeveloped the economy of 1,392 communities in 43 states by steering new investment into historic downtowns.

We are a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a twelve-member Board of Directors

Our daily activities are carried out by five standing committees entitled Design, Organizational, Economic Restructuring, Promotional and Fundraising.

OAMS maintains significant collaborative relationships with the area's neighborhood groups, including the Algiers Riverview Association and the Algiers Point Association, as well as with the Algiers Economic Development Foundation. We have also benefited from ongoing guidance from the City Planning Commission.

Our mission

To bring about the revitalization of Old Algiers’ commercial properties and corridors through the activities of historic preservation, commercial property/corridor rehabilitation and stabilization;

To serve as a coordinating resource for new and existing businesses;

To serve the community by encouraging and coordinating maintenance and improvements in commercial properties and public spaces and infrastructure.
